About us

At Grey Shrike, our name is inspired by a remarkable Australian bird: the Grey Shrike Thrush. This small bird possesses a melodious, song-like call that varies from region to region, much like the diverse accents across Australia.

Just as the Grey Shrike Thrush adapts its song to its environment, Grey Shrike, as a consultancy, understands and appreciates the nuances across different farming businesses, landscapes, and production systems.

Communication is at the heart of our approach. We believe that effective communication is a two-way street and the most valuable tool for learning and growth. This philosophy guides our interactions with clients as we work collaboratively to navigate change and achieve sustainable outcomes.

Our mission is to support the agricultural industry to be sustainable – environmentally, financially, and socially. We recognise that the best way to achieve this is by empowering farmers and related businesses, taking the hard work out of change through learning, implementing new technologies, and fostering mutual support. We uphold the values of honesty and transparency in all our dealings.

    FOUNDER

Tahnee established Grey Shrike with a vision to bridge gaps and build stronger connections within the agricultural landscape. Tahnee is passionate about empowering individuals and communities to navigate change effectively. She is known for her collaborative approach, her ability to foster open dialogue, and her dedication to achieving practical, sustainable outcomes.

  • Amy Bradney-George

    ENGAGEMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS LEAD

Amy brings a passion for clear, meaningful communication to her role as Engagement and Communications Lead at Grey Shrike. With more than 17 years’ experience as a writer and editor – including 15 years specialising in personal finance – she is skilled at translating complex data, terminology and fine print into language that makes sense. As the Australian and New Zealand Editor for FreshPlaza (2015-2016), Amy gained insights into horticulture and agribusiness that have been developed further through her work with Grey Shrike.

Her career to date has spanned project-based work with councils and small businesses, as well as large media publications, giving her a versatile and adaptable approach to work. She values collaboration, practical outcomes and communication that builds stronger connections across the agricultural landscape.

  • Sarah Barrington

Sarah believes many problems could be avoided with good communication and she constantly questions what “good” communication is.

Her previous role as an extension agronomist in NSW allowed her to be the conduit between scientists and farmers. She enjoyed the challenge of increasing efficiencies for growing food and fibre through research, analysis and the facilitation of knowledge transfer.

In more recent years, Sarah has been a hands-on farmer in Tasmania and appreciates the opportunity to apply scientific principals in a practical environment. Being involved in a small business, Sarah is no stranger to hard work, ongoing changes in business and environmental parameters and problem-solving. As a result, she is direct, practical and able to adapt quickly to situations around her.
